Nigerians react over emergence of Saraki, Ekweremadu, Dogara

Mixed reactions from a cross section of Anambra citizens and organizations over the election yesterday of Dr Bukola Saraki as the President of the 8th Senate, return of Ike Ekweremadu as his Deputy and the election of the immediate past Senate President David Mark as the Senate Leader.
Remarkable as the gesture were, according to Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, the CEO of the Capital Oil Group in his reaction yesterday, he urged all Nigerians to continue with the spirit of give and take. He described the attitude of the Senators who accommodated colleagues from the opposing Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as very commendable and worthy of emulation.
According to him, “this is real democracy at work and I pray it continues in all segment of our national life. We all watched as the the 8th National Assembly openly demonstrated transparency in the peaceful manner they elected their officers.
“I commend them, especially the new Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki, his Deputy-Ike Ekweremadu who was graciously re-elected to his honourable portfolio and the election of Senator David Mark as the Leader. These are an indication that our democracy has really come of age. I commend the senators, including all those who conceded defeat.
Also, Mr Dozie Nwankwo, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the March 28 election for the Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency saluted the members for displaying high sense of independence, love for fatherland and the growth of democratic principles. “We have really come of age and it is my sincere wish that we continue to move higher…”
And from the national headquarters of APGA, the Publicity Secretary, Barrister Ifeatu Obiokoye commended “the sense of maturity and democratic principle displayed by the National Assembly members in the manner with which they elected their principal officers.”
According to the party, “…we send our heartfelt commendation to the new Senate a President, Dr Bukola Saraki, his deputy Ike Ekweremadu and the other officers and the House of Representatives Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara who were openly and transparently elected in the full glare of all Nigerians.”
Obiokoye urged the officers to see their positions as a call to higher duty and the nation as their constituency.
