President Muhammadu Buhari who travelled to neigbhbouring Chad and Niger in his first week in office has come under fire by the Credible Alternative Alliance, CAA, under the leadership of former Minister of Finance, Chief Olu Falae and former Governor of Kaduna State, Alh. Balarabe Musa.
CAA, a coalition of 14 political parties and 13 Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, told journalists in Abuja, yesterday, that it would be a grave mistake for Buhari to think that the support he needed to govern the nation could be better foreign among foreigners than, at home, among Nigerians.
“We note that APC, All Progressives Congress, appears to want to cultivate and rely too much on the support of foreign governments. This is not good for sovereignty of our nation”, the group said , in an address read by Dr. Damian Ogbonna
It also criticised President Buhari noting the enormous challenges facing the nation, in his inaugural speech but failed to outline fresh initiatives towards tackling the challenges.
CAA counselled APC to do more more to not cultivate domestic support but also avoid the mistake of the winner-takes-all policy and the one-man show mantra which the Buhari administration was already exhibiting.
“You cannot govern effectively when you do so alone. It is not sustainable. We expect them to come to power having their policies in place but it seems they don’t have it,” the group said.
The alliance urged APC and President Buhari to learn a lesson from the nation’s immediate political history by avoiding the temptation of pushing the country to a one-party state, noting that such a situation could only undermine the nation’s democratic development.
